  • HLL opens pharmacies at 15 centers countrywide, plans 285 more
  • 3.98 lakh patients get affordable drugs through Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s flagship programme
Nearly four lakh patients have so far benefited from the flagship programme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to provide cardiac, cancer and other drugs at extremely affordable prices through dedicated pharmacies, 15 of which are now operational, with plans to open upto 300 of these nationwide. The Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment (AMRIT) programme was launched by Mr J.P. Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare in November 2015 at AIIMS, New Delhi.

“We have now 15 AMRIT outlets across the country. Nearly 2142 drugs (including cardiovascular, cancer, diabetes, stents etc) are being sold through AMRIT at an average discount of more than 63% to patients”, he said while inaugurating the three new AMRIT outlets. The three outlets were inaugurated by him through video conferencing at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jodhpur in the presence of Mr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Doner.

“The AMRIT clinics have sold drugs worth Rs 38.35 crores as per the MRP. However the costs to the patients through these outlets have only been Rs 14.19 crores. This has resulted in saving of Rs. 24.16 crores out of pocket expenditure to the patients",Mr Nadda said.

“We are extremely proud of the fact that we have been able to support the Ministry in bringing up life-saving medicines to nearly four lakh patients through a dozen outlets in less than a year at one-third of the cost", Mr R.P. Khandelwal, C&MD, HLL said.

In addition to the existing 15 outlets, 285 additional outlets will be opened in various central government funded hospitals, PMSSY aided hospitals and District hospitals across different states in India over the next one year. HLL is soon set to open AMRIT Pharmacies at more locations including AIIMS hospitals at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar and Patna, CNCI Kolkata, RCC Agartala, IGIMS Patna and BHU Varanasi.
