Opens MRI & CT Scan Facility in Thiruvananthapuram

The new HINDLABS MRI and Scan Facility at Sree Avittom Thirunal (SAT) hospital at Medical College campus marks another milestone in HLL’s continuing efforts to reach more people with its quality and affordable diagnostic services. This is the fifth HINDLABS MRI in the State of Kerala, the others functioning at Kozhikode, Thrissur, Alappuzha and Kottayam.

HINDLABS MRI & CT Scan facility was inaugurated by Ms K.K. Shailaja Teacher, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of Kerala on 13 September 2017.  “HLL has provided the state government with much needed support in strengthening the infrastructure in healthcare” the Minister said in her inaugural address.

“We aim to develop self-sufficient, excellent and patient-friendly Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and medical colleges. Public-Private partnership has the potential to achieve government’s dream of healthcare for all in the state,” the Minister said. She lauded HLL for the new MRI and CT Scan Centres at SAT which will provide diagnostic services at an affordable cost.

“This is HINDLABS’ fifth MRI and CT Scan Centre in the state and the 10th in the country”,    Mr R. P Khandelwal, C&MD, HLL said. He added that HINDALBS Scan Centres offer an attractive discount rate of up to 60 per cent and offer scans free of cost to 10% of BPL patients.

Mr Khandelwal noted how HLL, through public-partnership models, has diversified from being a condom manufacturer into a healthcare delivery company.

“We provide quality diagnostic services at extremely affordable costs –starting from primary health centres to medical colleges in various states of India,” he added. “The MRI scanning units of HINDLABS have so far benefitted around two lakh patients. HLL is enduring its best to provide healthcare services at affordable cost.”

The new 3000 square feet HINDLABS centre, with an investment of Rs. 11.30 crores, is equipped with 1.5 Tesla MRI scan machines, and CT Scan, with 128 slices. It will provide essential diagnostic services to the patients of Medical College Hospital, SAT, Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) and other outpatients.  These machines help in providing reliable test results in a comparatively shorter time.

“HLL has played a major role in the development of medical college hospital facilities since 2009. One third of the hospital’s development is contributed by HLL,” said Dr Thomas Mathew, Principal, Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

“The new HINDLABS Scan Centres will be beneficial to the common people,” said Dr Remla Beevi, Director of Medical Education.

“When faced with an emergency, we had to take children in an ambulance to Medical College, which was time consuming and difficult especially with oxygen masks. The new lab will ease the transportation difficulty,” said Mr Santhosh Kumar, SAT Hospital Superintendent.

Mr E.A Subramanian, Director (Technical and Operations), HLL, Dr M. S Sharmad, Medical College Superintendent, Dr N.Roy, Radio Diagnosis HOD and Dr V R Nandini, former SAT Hospital Superintendent were the other dignitaries present at the function.
